About our authors Stephen Lenz, PhD, LPC is an Associate Professor at The University of Mississippi. Dr. Lenz has provided clinical supervision across community agency, private practice, and university-based settings. His Wellness Model of Supervision has been positively received in counseling, psychology and social work programs across the United States and has been featured in several peer-reviewed publications by himself and others. His counseling background has been working with children, adolescents and families in community-based, university and private counseling settings. His research interests include community-engaged scholarship, program evaluation, counseling outcome research, single-case research, instrument development and holistic approaches to counseling, counselor education and supervision. Dr. Lenz is the Past-President of the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling. Dr. Lenz is Editor for Counseling Outcome Research and Evaluation and Guest Editor for special issues of the Journal of Counseling and Development and Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development. Dr. Lenz has authored several peer-review publications related to promoting counselor wellness within the supervisory context and consults with local communities to implement programs that promote optimal well-being in schools and the workplace. He is co-author of A Counselor's Guide to the Dissertation Process and Practical Approaches to Applied Research and Program Evaluation for Helping Professionals and a recipient of the Association for Assessment and Research in Counseling's Best Practices Award, the American Counseling Association's Best Practice Award, and the Texas Counseling Association's Research Award for his program evaluation activities within community-based counseling settings. Brande Flamez, PhD, LPC, NCC is a licensed professional counselor and clinical professor in the Counseling and Special Populations department at Lamar University. Dr. Flamez is also the CEO and Founder of the nonprofit SALT (Serving and Learning Together) world Inc., which provides donations and volunteer services to developing countries. Her clinical background includes working with children, adolescents and families in community-based and private counseling settings. In addition, Dr. Flamez helped design an outpatient program for court-referred adolescents. Dr. Flamez is active in the counseling profession. She has served on the American Counseling Association (ACA) Governing Council for the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC), ACA Finance Committee, ACA Investment Committee, and chaired the ACA Publications Committee. Dr. Flamez is the Past President for the Association for Humanistic Counselors (AHC) and currently serves as Past President for IAMFC, Secretary of AHC, and co-chairs the AHC Bylaws/Ethics Committee. She is also active in her local community and serves on the Nueces County Child Welfare Board and as the Chair to the Bylaws for the Nueces Country Child Welfare Foundation. Dr. Flamez is on the editorial board for The Family Journal. She has provided over 100 presentations and training workshops to professional groups throughout the United States and internationally. Her scholarly contributions include more than 32 coauthored book chapters and journal articles. Dr. Flamez is the co-author or coeditor of 7 textbooks currently used in clinical training programs throughout the USA, including: Counseling Assessment and Evaluation: Fundamentals of Applied Practice, Diagnosing Children and Adolescents: A Guide for Mental Health Practitioners, A Counselor's Guide to the Dissertation Process: Where to Start & How to Finish, and Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy: Theory, Skills, Assessment, and Application. She is the recipient of 18 national awards and 3 international awards demonstrating her dedication to advocacy, leadership and research in the field of counseling.
