Reviews

"Keeley Bruner writes about mothering and motherhood with a quiet attention that reveals that world anew. Her poetry shows us how ""life dictates / unexpected ellipses,"" and it is within those ellipses that Bruner finds symphonies and stardust, heartbreak and magic. -Sarah Viren, mother of two, author of To Name the Bigger Lie and Mine: Essays These poems are at once love song, lullaby, recipe, hymn, and manifesto. They hum of dirty laundry and stardust eternal. Who are we as humans if not mothers and children and lovers and gods? A must-read for anyone who is a mother, has a mother, or believes that mothers have something to say about what it means to find joy and wrestle with complexity in our fractured times. -Sarah (Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Drama Therapist, and mom of two) I found myself tearing up in the very first pages, Keeley's words bringing me back to births of my own. Her poems dive deep into what it is to become and to be a mother, through ages and stages, exposing what many are too scared, too anxious, too overwhelmed, or simply too tired to express themselves. They explore relationships, with children and partner, and journeys- physical, emotional, and spiritual. I reminisced through pages detailing the adventures of childhood and memories collected. Keeley's words are raw, true, and healing in the best ways; a beautiful medley of humor, pain, nostalgia and hope. These poems are a glimpse into the experience of mothers as a whole, from the creative joys to the mundane treasures, all steeped in emotion. -Sarah C. (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Certified Postpartum Doula, and mom of five) It's beautiful! [...] truly magic, and brought a tear to my eyes and a smile to my heart. -Jennie B. (founder of 4th Trimester AZ, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, and mom of three) These poems reach into the heart of motherhood, stripping it bare. An eminently relatable and emotional look at what it means to be a mother and wife. I definitely cried. -Kallen P. (homesteader, forager, and mom of two)"
