Sparks, MEd, CPhT, is an experienced instructional and curriculum designer who has taught courses in pharmacy practice, law, mathematics, and medical ethics. Formerly Coordinator of the Allied Health, Natural Sciences, and Emergency Management Division at Mid-South Community College, West Memphis, AR; and an Associate Professor with the Department of Pharmacy Technology at Austin Community College, Austin, Texas; he continues to serve as an author, educator, and consultant in the field of pharmacy technology. Jason has also served as an item writer for PTCB’s Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. He is certified by the College of Pharmacy, University of Houston, as an ACPE Instructor in Aseptic Technique for Pharmacy Technicians. Jason has been working as a pharmacy technician in both community and institutional pharmacy settings since 2000. In 2007, he was named Pharmacy Technician of the Year by the Texas Pharmacy Association. Jason currently resides in Arlington, Virginia. Lisa McCartney, BAAS, CPhT, PhTR, is the department chair for the ASHP Accredited pharmacy technician program at Austin Community College. She has been educating pharmacy technicians since 1999. Lisa has worked as a pharmacy technician for over 30 years. She is a subject matter expert in the area of sterile compounding and aseptic technique, and has been an ACPE certified instructor in sterile product preparation and aseptic technique since 1997. Lisa has a wide range of pharmacy experience, including the community, hospital, and oncology pharmacy settings. She became a PTCB certified pharmacy technician in 1995 and has been registered with the State of Texas since 2005. Lisa received the 2012 Roy Kemp award from the Pharmacy Technician Educator’s Council. Lisa is the author of the EMC/Paradigm book, Sterile Compounding and Aseptic Technique: Concepts, Training, and Assessment for Pharmacy Technicians.
