Als nun spater sich herausstellte, dass Holothurien und Seesterne, zu welchen auch die Medusen haupter (crinoideen) zahlten, damit eng verwandt seien, so legte Lamarck auf die excentrische Richtung der Glieder das Hauptgewicht, und nannte sie Radiaires echinodermes im Gegensatz zu den Quallen Rad. Mollasses (an. Sans vertebr. II. Woraus fur jene der einfache Name Radiata (strahlthiere) hervorging.
