OverviewOxbow Lake tells the story of a generation, the W generation. Oxbow lakes are abandoned meander loops of a river. They are formed when a river cuts through the meander neck, leaving sediments to shut off the water left behind. So as the river continues down towards the ocean, the water left behind becomes stagnant, forming an oxbow lake, shaped like a wooden yoke tied to an ox's neck. Oxbow lakes are symbolized by the letter W in geology. A person's life is like an oxbow lake, more so the life of an immigrant.
