Overview

One World: A Photographer's Global Journey is a distillation of the best images from a year-long adventure Oregon-based photographer Stuart Gordon embarked on with his wife and three children to 23 countries on six continents. In the first of the three-volume set, the photographer brings you images of extraordinary landscapes from Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, Oceania, South and Central America. Volume II focuses on wildlife from these regions, while Volume III captures the essence of the people and cultures encountered through portraiture, architectural and street photography. Volume II begins with the clown-like puffins and unique pure-bred horses of Iceland and moves on to the sled dogs and sea eagles of Norway. In England, you'll visit a world-famous birds of prey sanctuary in Andover before discovering the magnificent ibex of the French alps, a creature that was rescued from the brink of extinction in the last century. In South Africa, the photographer takes you to a primate sanctuary in Tsitsikamma National Park and the cranes and flamingoes of the Hermanus Lagoon. In Betty's Bay, South Africa, you'll be introduced to a unique penguin species before visiting the rich variety of wildlife in Zambia and Botswana's Okavango Delta, one of the richest wild game regions of the world. You'll be taken up close and personal with endangered white rhinos, elephant herds and a pride of lions fresh from a zebra kill. Marvel at the sight of battling kudus and herds of wildebeest. In Thailand, meet sacred elephants that have mastered the art of painting. In Australia, you'll be introduced to the endangered Tasmanian Devil, and in Patagonia's diverse landscape Gordon brings the ecosystem into focus with images of guanaco, puma, foxes and rheas. Llamas, flamingoes and coatamundi are a part of the portfolio, as well as the diverse bird and reptilian population of the Costa Rican and Ecuadorean rainforests.

Author Information

Stuart L Gordon is an Oregon-based nature and travel photographer whose work has appeared in photography publications such as Outdoor Photographer and Landscape Photography Magazine, regional Oregon magazines like 1859, as well as the North American Nature Photography Association's annual publication, Expressions 2017. Corporate clients have included REI, and he is a contributor to Getty Images and Adobe Stock. His photography has been exhibited in Oregon and NYC and his images are prized by collectors worldwide. The book One World: A Photographer's Global Journey is a photographic journal of a one-year adventure he embarked on to 23 countries on six continents from June 2014 through May 2015. Volume 1 of this ambitious project focuses on landscapes. Two more forthcoming volumes will spotlight wildlife, cityscapes, people and culture. You can see a full collection of the photographer's images at his Web Gallery at www.chasingthelight.zenfolio.com. Gordon says the daily practice of photography during the year-long excursion helped train his eyes to ""see"" the extraordinary in the ordinary and ""reveal"" that which lies below the surface in order to capture the spirit of a place or person he framed with his camera. ""The best images are the best precisely because they capture the raw emotion at the moment I pressed the shutter button,"" Gordon says. ""My best images perpetuate the journey for myself and my family, friends and even strangers who view them. They trigger not only memories but also emotions. These images are invaluable and among my most precious possessions. Whenever I view them, I am reminded that the things we all have in common as a human race are far more important and defining as a species than the artificial differences we create in our minds leading to separation, division and war. We truly do live in One World. It pays big dividends to get out and see it for yourself. No doubt you will fall in love with our planet and want to care for it the same way we want to protect and cherish the people we love."" Following up on his belief that photography can make a difference in the world, the photographer has pledged a portion of the proceeds from sales of the One World print and ebooks to two non-profit organizations: Children in the Wilderness and World Wildlife Fund.
