Overview

Since 1947, the marine photographer Norman Fortier has made the coastline around Rhode Island his studio and his inspiration. He has captured marine images of every conceivable description - from yachts and small sail craft to massive commercial vessels and tall ships. ""On the Wind"" is a stunning collection of duotone photographs, chosen from more than 100,000 of Fortier's images. The volume begins with a look at his early photographs, and then goes on to present exquisite images from all six decades of his work as a professional marine photographer. This fine volume is a must for anyone with a love of the ocean, sailing, and fantastic photography.

Author Information

Norman Fortier became an avid self-taught marine photographer as a young man. He served as a Navy photographer during WWII setting up his own commercial studio on his return. He was a generalist, doing advertising work, portraiture, and aerial assignments, yet the images he produced testify to both his brilliance as a technician and his uncanny sense of composition.
