He wrote widely and diversely on the subjects of his teaching and specialized in the history of medieval Jewish Bible interpretation. He was a long time active for the European Association of Jewish Studies and acted as guest-curator for the Museum Plantijn en Moretus, Antwerpen (2006-2008).
