Overview

"NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Featured in the critically acclaimed documentary RBG ""The authors make this unassuming, most studious woman come pulsing to life. . . . Notorious RBG may be a playful project, but it asks to be read seriously. . . . That I responded so personally to it is a testimony to [its] storytelling and panache.""-- Jennifer Senior, New York Times Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg never asked for fame--she has only tried to make the world a little better and a little freer. But nearly a half-century into her career, something funny happened to the octogenarian: she won the internet. Across America, people who weren't even born when Ginsburg first made her name as a feminist pioneer are tattooing themselves with her face, setting her famously searing dissents to music, and making viral videos in tribute. Notorious RBG, inspired by the Tumblr that amused the Justice herself and brought to you by its founder and an award-winning feminist journalist, is more than just a love letter. It draws on intimate access to Ginsburg's family members, close friends, colleagues, and clerks, as well an interview with the Justice herself. An original hybrid of reported narrative, annotated dissents, rare archival photos and documents, and illustrations, the book tells a never-before-told story of an unusual and transformative woman who transcends generational divides. As the country struggles with the unfinished business of gender equality and civil rights, Ginsburg stands as a testament to how far we can come with a little chutzpah."

"A deeply original mashup of pop culture and serious scholarship. I plan to give a copy to both of my daughters. -- ""Gilbert King, Pulitzer Prize-winning author"" It's the combination of Ginsburg's woman-hear-me-roar history, her frail-little-old-lady appearance and her role as the leader of the Supreme Court's dissident liberals that have rallied her new fan base. -- ""New York Times on Ruth Bader Ginsburg"" Narrator Andi Arndt's bright, authoritative voice fits the book's reverent tone. She uses a conversational style to humanize Ginsburg and moves the story along efficiently. Arndt adds excellent diction and comfortable pacing to make this audiobook a satisfying experience. -- ""AudioFile"" Ruth Bader Ginsburg is not only still on top of her game, she might be at the height of her game right now. -- ""Rachel Maddow"" This breezy, fun, and thoughtful take on the life of the Justice explains exactly why a new generation created and embraced the Cult of Ginsburg. -- ""Jeffrey Toobin, New York Times bestselling author"" This eponymous-and humorous-book is the third recent publication providing biographical information and paying tribute to Ginsburg's Supreme Court opinions, with special attention to her famous-and influential-dissents. Coauthors Carmon, an MSNBC journalist who has interviewed RBG, and Knizhnik, recent alumna of New York University School of Law...bring a fresh, appropriately irreverent perspective to scholarship about the justice...the authors successfully situate RBG's work within a larger historical context, thereby illustrating her central role in advancing equal rights for all. -- ""Library Journal"""
