Overview

If the pandemic of 2020 taught us anything, it is that we need to wake up to our lives. To be more present, more engaged, more in touch. Deri Latimer's experience during the pandemic was transformative. A 33-year-old trauma was triggered in March of 2020, taking the author on a whole new world of discovery about the power of understanding the imprints of trauma and the opportunities those imprints provide. A keynote speaker on all things happy and resilient, Deri found herself completely 'not herself''. As an individual who dedicates her life to healthy practices, she suddenly felt completely out of control. She rode the highest of highs to the lowest of lows before discovering the wisdom of trauma. It is never too late to fully wake up!

This is a book for all human kind. This book confronts the emotional turmoil, silent suffering and negative self-talk experienced by family, friends and survivors of suicide. It further explores the journey of health and wellness, and the reality that the hard work is definitely worth it. As a fellow survivor of trauma, Deri's story and her willingness to share the depth of her lived experiences provided me with a deeper perspective of my own struggles. The strength she demonstrates in the struggle is palpable and the joy and love of connecting human kind is her gift. Lieutenant-Colonel Trisha MacLeod, Commanding Officer, Canadian Forces Health Services (Canadian Armed Forces) Deri Latimer offers us a window into her experience with trauma, loss, and mental wellness. Her vulnerability is so powerful and a wonderful example of healing and hope. I am impressed with Deri's ability to tell her story with such openness. Anyone who has experienced grief, loss, shame, trauma, or mental health challenges will resonate with Deri's story in her book, Not Crazy, Just Human, as she shows us that it is okay to be vulnerable and ask for help and support. Kelly Penner Hutton, Ph.D., C.Psych, Clinic Director, Peace of Mind Therapy and Consultation A raw and authentic look at how sucking it up may sometimes suck you down. It doesn't matter who you are, even an international speaker on positive emotion can experience overwhelming negative emotion. Deri shares her experience of being in the depths of despair and her slow climb out with pearls of wisdom for those of us who may be there or those of us who want to support a loved one who is there. Mary Ann Baynton, MSW, Principal of Mary Ann Baynton & Associates, Director of Collaboration and Strategy for Workplace Strategies for Mental Health, and advisor to Mindful Employer Canada and My Workplace Health Not Crazy, Just Human is a must read. While we all face adversity in our life, Deri's journey to wellness demonstrates how each of us has the capacity to transform trauma, stress and adversity into an opportunity for personal growth. The insights and authentic life lessons of this book make it a resource that you will want to keep on your shelf so that when you-or someone you know-are called upon to answer to a crisis, you will have Deri's wisdom to draw upon. This is an authentic and uplifting book that demonstrates why during life's darker moments we need to be our own best advocate, to always ask the hard questions, and to never give up until we get the right answers. Meg Soper, R.N., Motivational Humorist, Co-Author of From the Stage to the Page Raw, real and an empathy-stirring read is exactly what Deri provides to readers through her powerful journey of trauma to healing. Its page turning stories are captivating and illustrate why conversations around mental health aren't just important, but necessary. Codi Shewan, Speaker, Consultant, Author of Everyday Legacy - Lessons For Living With Purpose, Right Now This book is perfect for people who wonder why everyone else seems to have it all together and they don't. Every human being experiences shame, discomfort, and trauma in their lives. In this raw and authentic book, Deri shares what that looked like for her. She normalizes trauma and teaches us to face it with courage. Deri's very human journey is both inspiring and mobilizing!
