OverviewThe Northwest Lighthouse Coloring Collection is more than just a coloring book. Adjacent to each coloring page is a colored print of the artists' original watercolor, a map of the lighthouses location, and a biography of its' history. This book is not only fun, it is also educational. Take a tour through Washington's Puget Sound or its' islands, or along the coast. Discover the lights that guided explorers and mariners along Oregon and Washington's rocky shores. At the entrance to the Columbia River, where it meets the Pacific Ocean, see where the Coast Guard uses the turbulent waters off Cape Disappointment as a training site. See the lights that stood guard during World War 11 to protect the entrance to Puget Sound and Seattle. Every lighthouse was built in a particular location and for a critical reason. Each has its' unique memories and stories to tell. Visit and listen. Hear the voices in the wind of the solitary keepers, or isolated families, who labored to provide a guiding light to mariners for most of two centuries. The light that shown across the waters was created from an oil lamp, inside a huge lens, whose wick had to be trimmed and the lantern glass cleaned daily. The work of a lighthouse keeper was both labor intensive and time consuming. There were many sailors dependent on their attention to duty. It is to these, often heroic few, that this book is dedicated. It is my desire that it connects you with a part of your historical heritage and inspires you to discover it for yourself. Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationIt is from a mariners' point of view that I grew to appreciate lighthouses, while living on the southeast coast and sailing the waters around Georgia and Florida. Seeing lighthouses from the water makes one more aware of their particular importance. After moving to Washington state, I was intrigued with the rocky coasts and the turbulent waters of the Pacific Ocean. Being a watercolor artist, it was a natural evolution that my visits to the lighthouses, the photographs I took, and my familiarity with their architecture and surroundings would result in a series of Washington and Oregon lighthouse paintings, which became the material for this coloring collection. It is a cumulative product of twenty years of travel, intrigue, and creativity. As an artist, I am blessed to have had the opportunity to see and sense the beauty of both the East and West coasts of the United States and to incorporate my experience and observation into works of art. Thank you for letting me share them with you. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
