Overview

"Fill in the blank: My child/grandchild is always saying, ""I want ____."" or ""But all my friends have____."" What did you choose: A pet, phone, video game, bike, Disney vacation, etc.? You're not alone! What Jonathan begs for is a dog, among other things... So accompanied by his nine furry friends, Jonathan embarks on a neighborhood escapade filled with clever schemes and playful antics, all in pursuit of his dream of having a dog of his own. But this story is more than just a boy's longing for a pet; it's a journey told from Jonathan's perspective that will have children, parents, and teachers laughing out loud. From relentless begging to taking initiative, setting goals, overcoming challenges, and showcasing responsibility, Jonathan's transformation inspires young readers to embrace self-management and responsible decision-making. With vibrant illustrations and entertaining rhymes, 'No Dog in my Yard' is tailored for children ages 4 to 8. It's the first installment in an engaging series that parents and educators can use to promote essential life skills. Discover a story that will captivate young readers and inspire them to embrace determination, hard work, and the joy of pursuing their dreams. WHAT READERS ARE SAYING: ""Wonderful Message in this Story - A fantastic book with a wonderful lesson for kids about trying their best and taking initiative. It is funny and engaging as well. I recommend this book to anyone who interacts with elementary students at home or school."" Heidi S, Verified Purchase-5 Star Review ""DellAnno is brilliant in describing how the story unfolds... The artwork is spectacular. Jim Pearson breathes life into the family, home, and neighborhood in a palette of primary colors that are beautifully subdued, depicting the changing of seasons through sketch and original illustrations. A wonderful children's book and a welcome addition to our bedtime rotation."" Jamie Michele, Reader's Favorite-5 Star Review ""A very clever children's story in rhyme - No Dog in my Yard is a very clever and humorous story about a boy and his dream, how he attempts to realize his dream, and finally how he reaches his goal... Bill M - Amazon Verified Purchase/5 Stars What a sweet story! - ""What a sweet story about a boy's determination to get a dog! Kids will enjoy Jonathan's plotting and planning and the adorable illustrations in the story. It would be a nice addition to any elementary school library!"" Linda C - Amazon Verified Purchase/5 Stars ""Lovely pictures and engaging text. As a teacher, you could use it to teach building an argument. I highly recommend!"" Tina R - Amazon Verified Purchase/5 Stars Reviewed by Jamie Michele for Readers' Favorite: No Dog in my Yard, written by Tricia DellAnno and illustrated by Jim Pearson, is a children's picture book about a child whose greatest desire is to have a dog. I loved that No Dog in my Yard was not just about a child getting a puppy and parents being portrayed as ambivalent. Tricia DellAnno writes in child-friendly lyrical prose and describes changes made by the child over time, which are sustained and beyond a point where another child might start to slacken, ease up, or get bored. The transition from no dog to dog is measured and DellAnno is brilliant in describing how it unfolds. The artwork is spectacular. Jim Pearson breathes life into the family, their home, and their neighborhood in a palette of primary colors that are beautifully subdued, depicting the changing of seasons through sketch and original illustrations. Overall, this is a wonderful children's book and a welcome addition to our bedtime rotation."
