"Nelson Mandela, the anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist was born in South Africa. He retained the office of President from 1994 to 1999. He is the grandson of a tribal ruler and councilor to the king. Mandela's father died at a young age when he was just a boy. He was the most influential figure in the ANC Youth League. Mandela et. al. ""Propagated the ANC on a more progressive and revolutionary direction.""In July 1963 the police searched Liliesleaf Farm where it became clear that MK had been involved in illegal activity. Mandela and his comrades were threatened with four charges of armed overthrow against the regime. In 1969, an escape scheme for Nelson Mandela was established by Gordon Bruce. However, he was eventually compromised, and the plan was preempted. In 1989, President Botha welcomed Mandela to a formal meeting over tea. This was a show of gratitude. President de Klerk released Mandela in 1990 and it was unconditional.Mandela resigned after completing two five-year terms as president of South Africa. Nelson Mandela focused most of his time on the battle against HIV/AIDS, which took the lives of more than any previous conflicts, and his foundation was established to concentrate on rural growth, school building, and fighting the disease. In 2002, Nelson Mandela commenced the Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture. The Mandela Rhodes Foundation was founded at Rhodes House in 2003 to help facilitate the education of African people. In 2010, he founded the Mandela Legacy Base.By 2013, the heirs of Nelson Mandela became entangled in an intra-family legal battle pertaining to the burial site of Mr. Mandela's children and also Mr. Mandela himself. A historian described Mandela as a ""modern African nationalist-decolonist humanist"" and in 2004, Johannesburg granted the former president of South Africa the Freedom of the Region."
