OverviewThere is a world, or perhaps a heaven, of deities outside of the Greco-Roman context, and this book looks to take you on a divine ride through those cultures to meet the gods and goddesses of ancient eras. David Fletcher, with the help of an array of sumptuous illustrations, weaves the ancient with the modern, giving a humorous and current commentary on the otherworldly of yesteryear. Many wonderful, fascinating, gruesome and downright weird (not to say oftentimes borderline inappropriate) tales and their protagonists are captured in a volume that deserves to adorn the shelves of both the armchair mythologist and interested reader, as well as the seasoned expert. Table of ContentsReviewsI wish, though, that I had had access to a copy of David Fletcher's wonderful new tome, 'Myth Education: A Guide to Gods, Goddess, and Other Supernatural Beings.' In it, he does an outstanding job of introducing those new to the field to major figures from a multitude of the world's mythologies, but at the same time includes enough detail and breadth to provide new insight even to the most seasoned mythographers.... Fletcher's writing is pithy, insightful, and not infrequently causes an eruption of laughter via his footnotes. Adding to the joy of reading are the wonderful illustrations throughout the book, from a variety of artists who are all masters of their craft. In fact, the only criticisms I have about this book are that it's too damn short. I'm putting my copy snugly next to Hamilton and Campbell on my bookshelf, and I think they will fully approve of their new company. -Dr. Caleb Lack, author of Critical Thinking, Science, and Pseudoscience: Why You Can't Trust Your Brain Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
