Overview

Age range 7 to 10 The Aldens travel to Sumatra to learn about saving the rain forest and its animals. Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny are off to the rain forests of Sumatra, where a protected piece of land is home to endangered animals such as orangutans, elephants, and tigers. But when part of the forest gets cut down, the Aldens have to figure out who is responsible, not only to protect the rain forest, but also the animals within.

Author Information

Gertrude Chandler Warner grew up in Putnam, Connecticut. She wrote The Boxcar Children because she had always dreamed about what it would be like to live in a caboose or a freight car—just as the Aldens do. When readers asked for more adventures, Warner wrote more books—a total of nineteen in all. After her death, other authors have continued to write stories about Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny Alden, and today The Boxcar Children® series has more than one hundred books. Craig Orback holds a BFA in illustration from Cornish College of the Arts and works as a freelance children's book illustrator near Seattle, Washington.
