Multicultural Therapy: A Practice Imperative is an excellent resource for therapists, trainees, and anyone interested in psychotherapy and counseling. Vasquez and Johnson provide an intersectional perspective to address the relevance of identity and social justice in psychotherapy. A timely and essential contribution, this text is applicable to all psychotherapy clients. I strongly recommend this superb volume.--Lillian Comas-Diaz, PhD, Author, Multicultural Care: A Clinician's Guide to Cultural Competence Dr. Melba Vazquez has been an influential force in multicultural psychology for decades. She is among a small handful of full-time therapists in independent practice who also has written an impressive number of articles, chapters, and books. This book adds to her impressive record. What is particularly helpful with this book is how she and her coauthor, Dr. Josephine Johnson, have included their own reactions on how to integrate the tenants of multicultural psychology to the therapeutic contexts, such as an understanding of one's own religious prejudices or how to respond to a racial microaggression by a client directed towards the therapist. --Jeffery S. Mio, PhD, Emeritus Professor, Psychology Department, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Pomona, CA Multicultural Therapy is essential reading for all psychologists and psychologists-in-training. --Patricia Arredondo, EdD, President, Arredondo Advisory Group, Phoenix, AZ Using psychological science and practice, Vasquez and Johnson illustrate the subtle and unique ways culture is always part of healing. The book is comprehensive, compelling, and practical--a gift to our field. --Hector Y. Adames, PsyD, Professor, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Chicago, Illinois; Co-Director, IC-RACE (Immigration, Critical Race, And Cultural Equity) Lab
