For children, adolescents, and young adults Mr. Germain Goes To Antarctica, based on a true journey, is an inspirational learning experience. The stories and activities in this book are designed to promote character education and environmental awareness, including climate change and sustainability. Readers are provided with information and resources that embrace a wide-ranging scope of the curriculum including reading, language arts, social studies, science, social skills, and personal awareness. Each of the sixteen chapters address two important character values, along with discussion/thought questions, vocabulary and glossary, and activity pages. The stories are based on Mr. Germain's true-life excursion representing the United States as a team member on Mission Antarctica's Voyage 1 expedition. The life-like illustrations are drawn from many of Mr. Germain's actual photographs. Imagine living on a sixty-seven foot yacht for ten days with eight teammates from different countries and cultures throughout the world - eight people who were, in fact, strangers to each other. Add four crew members and you have an interesting picture. The author and illustrator have worked in a collaborative effort to bring an important message to their readers about how they can each make a difference, not only in the world as it is today, but as it will be for generations to come. As the last unspoiled wilderness on earth, Antarctica is currently protected by the Treaty of 2041 prohibiting drilling and mining until that year. Decisions made by today's youth will impact our entire planet's ecosystem and the future of life on earth. Author Information

Roxanne Zusmer, a native of Miami, Florida, is an author and artist. She has a Masters degree in Mental Health Counseling and a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership. Previously a classroom teacher, Roxanne worked as a school counselor for 23 years, instilling innovative programs, character education, and life training skills, as well as parent education and community involvement. She has served as an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University in Miami and has presented workshops and seminars both locally and nationally. Roxanne has made a significant contribution to the counseling profession having served as president of the Florida School Counselor Association and as a vice-president of the American School Counselor Association. She has been honored as Counselor of the Year at the local, state and national levels.
