INTRODUCTION According to the International Diabetes Federation (2015), more than 371 million people across the globe have diabetes and this figure is predicted to rise to over 550 million by 2030. Of the total global diabetes rate, 90% are living with Type II diabetes, but it is estimated that up to half of these people is unaware of undiagnosed diabetes. (Diabetes education, 2015) India has more diabetics than any other country in the world, according to the International Diabetes Foundation, although more recent data suggest that China has even more. The metabolic disorder affects more than 50 million Indians - 7.1% of the nation's adults - and kills about 1 million Indians a year. The average age of onset is 42.5 years. The high incidence is attributed to a combination of genetic susceptibility and adoption of a high-calorie, low-activity lifestyle of India's growing middle class. (Chan et al., 2009). The importance of psychological, behavioral, and social factors in diabetes have been accumulating for many years, and the role of the Mental health expert in diabetes care has expanded accordingly. Psychological interventions play an important role to improve diabetes outcomes. (Sanjana et al., 2013) (Clinical diabetes, 1998) CONCEPT OF DIABETES MELLITUS Diabetes mellitus is classed as a metabolism disorder. Metabolism refers to the way our bodies use digested food for energy and growth. Most of what we eat is broken down into glucose.
