OverviewCharlie Moynahan is happy that fourth grade is over and summer is underway . . . that is until a new kid, Rudy Roberts, moves into the neighborhood and disrupts Charlie's world. However, when a robbery occurs around the corner at fellow fourth grader, Sarah Morris's house, Charlie, with the help of best friend Harold Streeter, begins her own investigation, hoping not only to earn the reward money but also to put Rudy Roberts in his place. Meet Charlie takes the reader on an adventurous journey of self-discovery, as Charlie learns about prejudice, misunderstanding, friendship, and sacrifice. While it is about a young girl, it is even good for parents struggling with a difficult child. It has a strong Christian message that is very touching as well as helping us walk closer to God in our everyday lives. Good read! Wonderful story, a great read for all age groups! Jody Solinski's second novel is full of hidden surprises (Charlie is a girl), delightful insights about human nature (a girl can wear pink and be a good athlete) and challenges the reader to question your own set of bias we so easily accept without question. As the young slteuths go about solving a neighborhood crime, we learn that easy deduction might not be as certain as first thought. Charlie is a warm, fun, strong willed and charming charcter who seems to hand the reader an invisible mirror to reflect upon ourselves. Just finished reading Meet Charlie by J.E. Solinski. Congratulations on writing a great story with a purpose. Loved the believable characters and the end of book resolution for conflicted Charlie. I highly recommend that parents of tweeners purchase this book for their children. Charlie shows how eternal life lessons can be learned in the midst of a summer's vacation. Meet Charlie, by J.E. Solinski is a great summer read! If your children cry, I'm bored! , hand them this book. Learning to be a friend is not always an easy task, but Charlie finds some answers by sharing old friends and making new ones over the summer break at VBS. God's life lessons are great character builders and I look forward to seeing if Charlie might have more life lessons to teach us in future books. Jonell Griffith Principal/Administrator of San Luis Obispo Christian School I just finished reading Meet Charlie and can't wait to share it with a 12-year-old friend. Charlie is conflicted about friends and people she doesn't like. The book takes us on a journey of self-discovery and emotional and relational growth. I think it would be a really fun and meaningful book for children approaching the teen years. I look forward to reading the next book about Charlie.
