Overview

The Ready to Paint series provides six tracings for readers to pull out and transfer on to watercolour paper. There is one for each of the five step-by-step demonstrations, plus a bonus tracing of the inspirational painting in the Introduction section, and full instructions on how to transfer the images. People who want to learn to paint without relying on their drawing skills have everything they need in this book. Geoff Kersey has created five beautiful paintings of typical Mediterranean scenes, from a palm-fringed beach to a Tuscan farm, domed Greek churches on a hillside overlooking the deep, blue sea, and a bicycle on a sleepy, sunlit street beneath trailing bougainvillea. The tracings and clear step-by-step photographs explain the painting process in great depth and make it easy for readers to reproduce all of the projects.

Once again, this consistently strong series goes for the location approach, offering something that, if nothing else, is guaranteed to appeal to the armchair traveller. As ever, though, there's more and, if you want a guide to painting landscapes that are more than just a broad canvas, you'll be hard put to find better. Geoff paints five nicely varied scenes including a quiet village corner, a Tuscan farm and an idealised beach. There are tracings for all of them and the usual highly detailed set of demonstrations.-Artbookreview.net The Mediterranean is a perennially popular destination for vacations, and if you have been there (or are planning on visiting) and want to preserve your memories in more than just film then this can be slipped into a suitcase. With the usual six tracings and heaps of staged instructions all you will need to pack are art materials and your imagination. The author worked as an art instructor on a cruise liner and has visited a good variety of typical Mediterranean places. If you are used to painting more northern views then you have some new lessons to learn and other materials to obtain. In here you get to work with a different palette of colors and learn how to paint the unique light found in this region as well as the vegetation and all the aspects that make up a part of the world many people find special. The five projects cover a beach scene, Tuscan farm, harbour, bicycle propped up on a wall covered with bougainvilleas in Greece and Santorini, as well as the sixth tracing to tackle on your own that shows a scene in Taormina, Sicily. Bright colors, clear light and a feeling of heat are all achieved using a variety of effects and the results are paintings you wish you could step into. I liked the way in which painting this part of the world is treated as a separate subject that has many different aspects to painting cooler climes with more muted colors. If you want to paint this region, this is a great place to start.-Myshelf.com If you have ever wanted to try painting a luscious Mediterranean landscape - this is the book for you. Even if you have never been to the Mediterranean - or you have poor drawing skills - you can still get a good result by following the simple instructions given in this book. Pull out tracings provide basic outlines for five typical scenes. These scenes are: a farm in Tuscany, Santorini, Bicycle and Bougainvilla in Greece, Beach view, and Harbour at Amalfi. The images can be reused several times. Having transferred your chosen image onto paper, all you have to do then is follow the step by step instructions showing which paint to apply where, what brush to use, what technique is required. The result is a beautiful watercolour painting ready to hang. A very good, basic introduction to the subject which will prove a helpful aid to novice artists. 3 stars.-Monstersandcritics.com Hi Geoff, i'm a big fan of your work & watch you on the painting & drawing channel, i recentley bought your book Mediterainian landscapes & have painted a couple of scenes from it, i was always nervous of watercolour & have previousley used pastels but found your step by step instructions easy to follow, i'm looking forward to treating myself to another of your books. carol stretton-Customer
