OverviewExcerpt from Maryland Colonization Journal, Vol. 3: November, 1845 Among the emigrants per the Brig Kent, was one Major Bolon, a ship wright, who served his time ih Dorchester County, but who has worked some years in Baltimore, for the Messrs. Gardner and others, as journey man, at full pay. He was first induced to go out on wages, to build a vessel for the Agency at Cape Palmas, but on full consideration of the mat ter, and learning the facilities for carrying on his business in the Colony, he concluded to cut loose from this country, and take his family with him to Africa. All the materials for constructing a vessel of 50 tons, excepting the plank and timbers, together with a model of the same, by Gardner.
