The best parenting book I've read in a long time. Having read many parenting books over the years, I have to say this is one of the best. Seriously, I devoured it. My copy is riddled with highlights and bookmarks. The nuggets of wisdom are practical and easy to put into practice. Within a few days of implementing the author's ideas, I saw a profound improvement in behaviour with my nine-year-old special needs daughter. There's more love, laughter, and connection. Less tantrums and attitude. I can't recommend this book enough . - C. Wright Best parenting book out there! Many times I have wished there was a manual for my kids. A logical plan. Rules of engagement. This is the closest that I have found. This is a short, effective, actionable plan. Hint: it just might change your other relationships as well . -Jonathan Geraci A profound concept explained very clearly. Your child acts out, and you're frustrated. You say something in response because you're frustrated too. That almost always seems to make it worse. The author sounds like she has seen this pattern hundreds of times with her clients. She lays out a solution that seems realistic. Most importantly, be calm, even if you want to scream. And she guides you through the process for a whole lot less than the cost of a counseling session . -Eric Newman Finally, a booked helped me understand how to respond to emotional kids. As a very analytical and logical dad (I'm an engineer), I realize now reading this book that I've probably been going about it the wrong way for so long and always trying to use my thinking brain or logic to try and get my kids to stop crying or having an emotional response. This book taught me there is such a better way. I feel like I have a better understanding now on how to manage and approach the emotions and not get upset so easily. I wish I would have read this a long time ago!!! This has already helped me connect and respond better with my kids . -Brian Sucked into your child's emotions, escape with this book. This is among the best, most practical parenting books I've read. It appealed to me because my entire family is into feelings. This is a thorough guide on how to navigate those feelings. If you're exhausted at the end of the day and wonder why bedtime goes poorly, this book explains why and how to engage the rest of the day to improve bedtime. If the early morning meltdowns prior to school frustrate you, you'll be able to validate the feelings and move on. If homework woes cause all the stress, don't fear. The answers are. I am a homeschooling mom. My kids are always here. I'm so grateful for this book. One day after reading it, and I'm implementing the suggestions. Thank you! -EC Mama
