OverviewThis text explores the conditions for the development of ethical norms among Danish practising lawyers. The analysis draws on international studies in the field of sociology of professions, and investigates some of the consequences of internationalization and commercialization for the legal community. The author's thesis is that the ethical outlook among practising lawyers has been altered because of the working conditions and the organization of law work. The book gives an overview of legislation as regards entry and conduct regulation concerning Scandinavian practising lawyers, compared to England/Wales and USA. It presents an investigation of the professionalization process of the Scandinavian lawyers, and it analyses the specific structure of legal professions in relation to the division between common law and civil law, arguing that this division is becoming less meaningful in relation to the legal profession.
