Below the fourth grade it will be necessary to distribute to each pupil the following practice sheet, * before allowing any pupil to see the scale with which he is to be measured. After passing one of these practice sheets to each child, make the following general explanations: I want to see if you can read what is printed on the little sheet of paper, and whether you can guess what words have been left out. After making the above explanation, the teacher and the examiner should give assistance to any child who does not understand, seeing that each child learns what is expected. After the examiner is confident that each child has the correct idea of how to proceed, a copy of the scale to be used should be held up in full view of the entire class and the statement made that This page is very much like the little sheet on which you have just been working, except that the last sentences on this sheet are very much harder.
