Excerpt from Journal of the American Oriental Society, 1897, Vol. 18: Second Half Individual hymns and parts of hymns, believed by Grassmann to be later in date than the collections in which they occur, were placed by him in his Appendix. In many cases Grassmann also alleges the vocabulary as an indication of late date but in others a hymn is relegated to the Appendix only because it is difficult or prosaic, and therefore not suitable for metrical translation.
