These communities situated in the most remote parts of Odisha, India are known for their centuries-old tradition and culture. From their oral literature to their dance everything that they do, exudes uniqueness. Their ancient practices and folklore give us a glimpse of the way our ancestors would've lived in the past. This book discusses their oral literature, lingua franca, food habits, art & craft among many other things. Their vision towards the environment and the effect of modernization on these communities has been covered in this book.

Author Information

Dr. Debashis Patra is a widely acclaimed Tribal writer in Odia language. He is the author of thirty four books about tribal culture, literary criticism, fiction and collections of contemporary poetry including Mudulipada Ra Loke, Kichi Katha Kichi Byatha, Dhola O Anyanya Galpa and Sabda Sangam and received many awards. His works on tribal communities explore their culture, language, literature, socio-economic status and the impact of modernization on their societies. He received his D.Litt. degree for his work on tribals of South Odisha from Utkal University. Currently, he is working as an Associate Professor in Odia at FM University, Balasore.
