He has held academic appointments at Cornell University, the State University of New York at Alfred, the State University of New York at Fredonia, and Liberty University. Dr. Weaver chaired the Biology Departments at both Liberty and Fredonia and held the position of Academic Dean at Alfred. Dr. Weaver's primary areas of teaching and research were microbial genetics, physiology, and ecology. He is the author of numerous scientific papers, two other books on biology, and holds one of the first patents for a DNA based detection method for the Lyme Disease bacterium.
