OverviewAbout the Series: I Understand Graphs! Workbooks One to ThreeI Understand Graphs is a set of three workbooks (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) designed to provide instruction and practice of graphs, from the primary through to secondary levels. Mathematics is a subject that many people are terrified of. As a Mathematician, my mandate is to demystify the subject, to explain even the more complex concepts in a way that small children can understand. I decided to start with graphs because it is one of the areas that I feel students need mastery in, in order to excel in Mathematics. Next to algebra, graphs is my favourite topic. To me, Mathematics reflects life. Mathematics is philosophy and spirituality, tied into one. Graphs reveal this, from infinity to infinity. So, children may be introduced to these books as early as five years old. The lessons are tapered in such a way as to be manageable at this age, gradually building upon skills so that proficiency might be achieved by the time the students are up to sit the regional external Mathematics exams. I have had excellent results using this strategy.ABOUT THE AUTHORKamau Mahakoe is the principal and co-founder of the Kemet-Maasai Academy, a primary-level institution, located in Portmore, Jamaica.
