Author Information

My name is Jimmie Ray Northern #113936. I am a convict serving a 41-year prison sentence for second degree murder. I have done over 22 years in Arkansas' most dangerous penitentiaries. Here are a few of the units I have served time in Cummins Unit, Delta Regional unit, Calico Rock Unit, Act 309 Program at Lee County, Tucker Max Unit, Mississippi County Work Release Unit, Varner Super Max Unit, J.C.J. Unit, Pine Bluff Unit, Wrightsville Unit, and Brickeys Unit. I wrote this manual to help you in your transition from becoming a shorthair to that of a convict. Inside these walls what you don't know can hurt you. The rules are totally different from those in the free world. It's said that experience is a good teacher, but in prison you don't have a long time to learn, so it's best to seek the knowledge of someone who has already traveled this road and has done the hard work for you. Once you have mastered this place, then you have graduated the School of Hard Knocks. The system is not designed to initiate positive change in inmates. That's up to the individual. To continue down the same path that led you to prison is insanity. Different results require different thinking and reasoning. -J.R. Northern
