This book explains in detail how to sketch horses based on the author's over 60 years of experience in horse drawing. The book starts with an overview of a horse's shape, body parts, skeleton, muscles, and proportions. It then illustrates different types of horse gaits in steps and demonstrates in detail a variety of methods in horse drawing and how to sketch different body parts and action poses. This book of over 100 pages provides hundreds of drawings for learning and reference.

Author Information

Mr. Chunhu Gong has learned to draw horses since childhood. He learned landscape painting from Professor Junli Liu, a disciple of the renowned Chinese artist Daqian Zhang, and learned freehand brushwork from Mr. Jiangfan Wei, a disciple of Beihong Xu, who is a master artist known for his paintings of horses. Chunhu was also instructed in horse sketching by Mr. Zhou Huang, a famous painter in China. After decades of art practice, Chunhu has formed a distinct personal style of horse painting. His freehand brushwork of horses is vigorous. His meticulous painting of horses is delicate and poetic. He has published over 20 books and more than 10 papers on horse painting techniques. Chunhu frequently engages in philanthropy, volunteering to teach horse painting to students of rural primary and middle schools. His horse painting summer camp is well received. Chunhu is also frequently invited to participate in international exchanges in Asia and Europe, and has been covered by media in China, Germany, Malaysia, and other countries. His works are collected by art lovers from Britain, France, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, and the United States, among other countries as well as art institutions at home and abroad. Former French President Chirac once praised Chunhu's horse painting in a letter and encouraged him to continue to promote cultural exchanges between China and France.
