Reviews

Seldom do you read scholarship that explores so broadly around a single theme and then engages with remarkable relevancy the modern world. After investigating the complex portrayal of wisdom in the Old Testament, this book turns our attention to a diverse array of contemporary contexts and applications. A fitting tribute to a career built on wisdom. --Nathan Lovell, George Whitefield College With exegetical care and pastoral sensibility, these articles are a fitting tribute to a man who has taught and shepherded students for thirty years. The contributors ably cover a wide range of texts in the Hebrew Bible, and their accessible insights will no doubt make their way into my classroom as I share them with students. Bravo to everyone involved, especially the honoree! --Carmen Joy Imes, Talbot School of Theology, Biola University A rich, informative, and enjoyable collection of essays exploring the biblical theme of wisdom. These varied and insightful contributions demonstrate well the need to read wisdom (and not just in the obvious places) as well as the need to read and teach wisely. --Tim Davy, All Nations Christian College Lindsay Wilson's colleagues and past students have gifted him, and us, with a large and wide-ranging collection of essays whose focus is consistently biblical. Between them, they draw from across the Old Testament to demonstrate that biblical wisdom cannot be confined to biblical wisdom literature. Whatever their interests, students of the Bible will find something in this volume to stimulate, interest, and provoke them to think more deeply about wisdom. --Andrew Shead, Moore Theological College I am delighted to commend this wide-ranging collection of essays to honor a good friend and fine scholar. The focus is on wisdom, but the scope is much broader than simply biblical wisdom literature. The international flavor is notable, with contributions from Europe, Africa, and Asia, as well as Australia. --David L. Baker, All Nations Christian College The essays contained in Honoring the Wise bear the hallmarks of the Old Testament scholar they are written to honor: careful analysis of the biblical text, wise judgments, readings with a strong ethical flavor, and pertinent application to the current world. It is not common for there to be such a concord between what scholars spend their life studying and their own character and life, but this is true for Lindsay Wilson. --Gregory Goswell, Christ College
