Author Information

Marcelo Hernandez Castillo, Janine Joseph, and Esther Lin are the co-organizers of Undocupoets, a nonprofit literary organization that advocates for poets who are currently or who were formerly undocumented in the United States. Their work on widening the literary community and inspiring and uplifting forgotten and overlooked voices has won Undocupoets the B&N Writers for Writers award, among other recognitions. Castillo is the author of the Children of the Land and the award-winning Cenzontle. He holds a B.A. from Sacramento State University and was the first undocumented student to graduate from the Helen Zell Writers Program at the University of Michigan. His work has appeared widely in the media, including the New York Times, Paris Review, People Magazine, and the PBS Newshour. He lives in California where he works with incarcerated youth and teaches at the Ashland University Low-Res MFA program. Born in the Philippines, Janine Joseph is a formerly undocumented poet, librettist, and the author of Decade of the Brain: Poems and the prize-winning Driving Without a License. Her poetry, essays, and critical writings have appeared in numerous publications, including The Nation, the Atlantic, Poetry Northwest, Orion, Poets & Writers, and the Smithsonian's ""What It Means to Be American"" project, and she has created works commissioned for the Houston Grand Opera, Washington Master Chorale, and Symphony New Hampshire. A recipient of Fellowships from MacDowell, Bread Loaf, and the Paul and Daisy Soros Foundation, Joseph is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at Virginia Tech. She lives in Blacksburg, VA. Esther Lin was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and lived as an undocumented immigrant in the United States for 21 years. She won the 2023 Alice James Award for her forthcoming debut book Cold Thief Place. Lin has been an artist-in-residence at Cité internationale, Paris; a Writing Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown; and a Wallace Stegner Fellow. Her poetry and criticism have appeared in Hyperallergic, New England Review, Sewanee Review, Ploughshares, and elsewhere. Currently she is a critic-at-large for Poetry Northwest. She lives in Seattle. Prentice Onayemi is an Earphones Award-winning audiobook narrator and a voice and film actor who is known for his roles in The Steam-Room Crooner, AmeriQua, and as Joey in the Tony Award-winning play War Horse. Emana Rachelle is a New York City-based stage, screen, and voice-over actress with a voice described as rich velvet. Emana is a proud member of both SAG-AFTRA and AEA. She has an MFA from West Virginia University, where she served as a W. E. B. DuBois Graduate Fellow. Additionally, she holds a BFA from NYU Tisch and has trained at The British American Dramatic Academy. Emana has performed Off-Broadway, and her television credits include HBO's Insecure, Amazon Prime's #LoveMyRoomie, and NBC's 30 ROCK. Her upcoming credits include The Good Fight (Paramount) and the highly anticipated film The Color Purple Musical, executive produced by Oprah Winfrey. Emana has a love of all things fiction, especially mysteries (love, love!). She's narrated YA, fantasy, science fiction, MOCAP, and romance. In particular, her more than ten years of experience as a standup comedian have given Emana a solid funny bone, and made her a sucker for romantic comedies. She possesses the unique skills to perform multiple voices and dialects. She falls in love with building a character's world, the special traits that make them tick, and their unique points of view. She can't wait to narrate your next book! Sura Siu is a first-generation Asian American voiceover actress who has a passion for breathing life into characters, stories, and the printed word. When not performing, she enjoys playing video games, biking, and meditating. Rasha Zamamiri is an actress, a singer, and a voiceover artist who was born in the Middle East and raised all over the world. She has a vast knowledge of cultures, customs, and religions, which have helped her character portrayals on stage, on TV, and in the booth. She was also the first Muslim featured in a national commercial wearing the hijab, which was televised during the Super Bowl, Olympics, and multiple national events. Timothy Andrés Pabon is an English- and Spanish-speaking voice-over artist who has worked extensively in advertising and audiobook narration. He has had acting roles on House of Cards and has also been a costar on HBO's acclaimed series The Wire opposite country music legend Steve Earl. As a stage actor, he has worked off-Broadway at the June Havoc Theatre, and his regional credits include Center Stage, the Shakespeare Theatre, Arena Stage, the Hippodrome, Olney Theatre, Rep Stage, and GALA Hispanic Theatre. Keong Sim is a Vietnamese-American actor, writer, and audiobook narrator. He has lent his talents to multiple projects, including Olympus Has Fallen, The Last Airbender, and Grey's Anatomy.
