He helped to found the 3East DBT program at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts, where he is director of training and senior consultant. He is assistant professor in the psychiatry faculties of Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He trains mental health professionals in DBT worldwide. George Newbern has appeared in Father of the Bride, Father of the Bride II, Evening Star, Adventures in Babysitting, and many other films.
