Reviews

Navigating the emotions and needs of any child can be daunting, but add past trauma and the job can seem impossible. Alison highlights important aspects to consider when putting together the puzzle pieces to help young people reach their full potential. As a teacher, I particularly enjoyed passages about the worry machine and Alison's reminder to meet children where they're at. Another great resource for our families! -Bridget Purkiss-Lemon, Early Elementary Teacher, New Covenant Christian School Recognizing that children's trauma is treatable with proper care is an important message in this book. Giving a name to the various types of trauma can also guide the type of care needed. Teaching children at a very young age how to identify their feelings can help achieve healing now and throughout their lives. Some physical ailments may be caused by an undisclosed trauma, but once brought to light, healing can begin! -Rhonda Spencer, Former Victim Advocate for Kalkaska County Courts Ms. Neihardt breaks down the effects of trauma and how to address that aftermath in easily digestible sections using real world, professional experience to engage the reader. A great resource to have on your shelf if you serve families and children. -Andra Williams, Licensed Professional Counselor This book is written as an introduction to childhood trauma. My first thought was - what a great resource for parents whose children are going through a traumatic experience. However, it also provides information and examples helpful to a variety of audiences: parents, teachers, therapists, ministers, or anyone wanting to understand childhood trauma and how it affects children and adults. -Kim Christensen, Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor
