Health Issues and Adolescents: Growing Up, Speaking Out

Overview

This work relocates the issue of health education for adolescents to a young person's perspective. It provides recommendations for initiatives relevant to a range of professionals and researchers involved in the health education of young people. The book starts from idea that young people on the whole do not speak for themselves, that they are spoken for, by adults. In this scenario, most research and policy agendas relating to young people are dominated by adult concerns about young people's health and rarely from young people's perspective. This gap may be a critical factor in explaining some of the problems health educators face in getting young people to transform health knowledge into action.
