Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationSusan earned her B.A. in Psychology and M.Ed. and Ed.S. in counseling from the University of Florida. She has been riding since she was four years old and showing horses since her early teens. Susan was also a judge and certified riding instructor for the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association for eight years. Since first finding EAGALA in 2000, Susan has become increasingly convinced that horses are truly a pathway to mental health and wellness. As an elementary school counselor for 37 years, her work with children has been the focal point of her life. Combining that with horses was a goal she set for herself in the early 1970s. EAGALA has made achieving that goal possible through a model that not only makes sense, but works! Both equine assisted psychotherapy (EAP) and equine assisted learning (EAL) serve clients at Winning Strides. In addition, Susan uses EAL in her supervision of licensure candidates and interns. Continuing education is a big part of Winning Strides, and all workshops are done in the arena. It is Susan's belief that including the equine co-facilitator in therapy and learning sessions is effective, real, efficient, and provides for life-long learning. Susan is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor in the state of Georgia. She serves as the mental health professional on the Winning Strides team.
