Overview

This lavishly illustrated 224 page volume provides an unforgettable celebration of more than four centuries of Harrow School. It captures the intimate recollections, memoirs and anecdotes of great Harrovians of the past, including Winston Churchill and Lord Byron. As well as first-hand contributions from distinguished Old Harrovians in public life today, including John Mortimer, Edward Fox, Peter de la Billiere, Charles Guthrie and Jeremy Greenstock, plus more recent leavers such as Pen Hadow and James Dreyfus. Harrow covers many of the subjects and activities for which the School is celebrated - cricket against Eton, squash (invented at the School), rugby, swimming in the 'Ducker' and Harrow Football, now an endangered species. The School's history is summarised by historian, Christopher Tyerman and its academic glories celebrated by Murray Last, John Jeremy and others. In addition to some wonderful anecdotes, the text is enlivened throughout by extracts from the school newspaper, The Harrovian, including a hard-hitting interview with Margaret Thatcher at the height of her prime ministerial career. Harrow brings to life this famous English institution.
