Markowitz is a graduate of Penn State University with a BS in Business Management. He joined Allen Organ Company after graduation and within a few years was appointed Vice President for International Sales and in 1991 became its President. During this period the publicly traded Company grew in sales to approximately $80 million, expanded into the data communication field and employed over 500. As president he later took the company private. Markowitz is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international business honor society, the highest recognition a student can receive in a business program accredited by AACSB International, and is a member of Mensa. He serves on the Board of the Community Music School in Allentown, Pennsylvania and is a member of the Advisory Board for Penn State Lehigh Valley campus.
