Because it was heretical it was antagonized and later destroyed by the victorious school of the prophets. Nevertheless, some traces still remain to speak of the wide influence that these sayings of the popular phrase makers had upon the people. Through this examination, it is hoped that some gaps left by the study of the independent groups of proverbs as found in the Wisdom Literature will be filled up, and the knowledge of the old masters - the wise men - be increased.
