OverviewEveryone has a dream of how they think they want their life to go. I had such a plan, but I will be the first to tell you that it absolutely did not go the way I had envisioned. It started out going down the right path (or what I assumed was the right path), but boy, the path I ended on was one that stretched me. My son was born in 2003 and was an extremely colicky baby. I had a heart condition and life was tough for the first 6 months of his life. When Ajay was 14 months old, we welcomed into our home Kacy who, at that time, was a foster to adopt child. Life continued to happen - the good, the bad, and the ugly. By the time my son was three years of age, I knew that he was on the spectrum, but, since he was high functioning, I did not seek out any help or advice. I did my own research and began implementing copping strategies. At age 4, my friend Karen was visiting, and she told me that my son had Asperger's. She has a nephew who exhibited the same signs at that age. Now I had a place to start looking into what that meant. As I read the description and behaviors of Asperger's, several similarities to my own personality began to become known. So, what was wrong with that? I turned out surprisingly good.
