Doody s Review: Melissa M. Ranieri, BS, PharmD (Temple University School of Pharmacy)**Description**This is a handbook of practical advice for pharmacy students seeking a postgraduate residency. Since securing a residency has become more competitive in recent years, this book is particularly timely. From CV preparation to interview skills, it contains information to help students navigate the residency application process.**Purpose**This book was inspired by an elective course taught by the authors on the skills necessary to pursue a pharmacy residency. In collaboration with ASHP, they created this resource of the most essential information that was taught in that class. They hope to provide guidance to pharmacy students across the country and equip them with the tools necessary to succeed in this process. Various faculty, clinicians, and residency program directors were also consulted and offer their insight. The end result is a handbook of practical information that pharmacy students certainly will find helpful in the sometimes tricky process of securing a residency.**Audience**Pharmacy students who are interested in or contemplating a residency after graduation will find this to be an invaluable resource. For each pharmacy year, suggestions are offered for how to best prepare for a residency, including a focus on academics, exploring organizations, and traveling to meetings. Additionally, the residency application process is simplified and seems less intimidating after reading this book. The Midyear Clinical Meeting is even explained, including when to plan ahead and how to approach the residency showcase. Get the Residency: ASHP's Guide to Residency Interviews andPreparation is certainly worth the investment for pharmacy students applying for a post-graduate residency. Much of the information provided can be easily implemented and could significantly improve an applicant's chance of matching with a desirable program.**Features**Practical advice in applying for a residency is offered, including CV writing, interview technique and follow-up, and the matching process. The chapter on formatting a CV is particularly helpful, especially because it is specific for pharmacy students. Tips for organizing a personal statement are also offered, including the format of each paragraph. Key lessons conclude each section and help readers to focus on the most essential information. Real stories about residency applicants and pharmacy students are also told from the perspective of clinicians and residency program directors, which help students understand the qualities and skills deemed important in potential applicants. Tips are also shared that help students stand out from other applicants, whether it is a hand-written thank-you note or a hard copy of a portfolio. This useful information will help students feel more confident and prepared when applying for a residency.**Assessment**This resource contains practical and essential advice that cannot easily be found elsewhere and will be invaluable to pharmacy students seeking a residency. From formatting a CV to what to expect from the match process, it offers guidance for every step of the application process. After reviewing this information, pharmacy students can highlight their strengths and increase their confidence in securing a residency.-----------------------------------------------------------Weighted Numerical Score: 97 - 5 Stars!--Melissa M.
