"The 21st century has been called the ""century of the city."" Unprecedented and uneven urban growth and expansion coupled with climate change have compounded concerns that current urbanization pathways are not sustainable. She holds a PhD in Geography from Arizona State University, Tempe, USA. David H. Kaplan is Professor of Geography at Kent State University, USA. He is the past President of the American Association of Geographers and the Editor-in-Chief of Geographical Review.
