OverviewIt has long ago been demonstrated that motivation was a fundamental pillar of the enterprise of learning a foreign language. The importance of motivation is even greater in foreign language contexts. This book investigates the motivational orientations of Chadian university students and how those orientations relate to the new context of oil industry in Chad, a poverty-stricken, land locked African nation. Based on a questionnaire developed by Noels, Pelletier, & Clement (2001) and a questionnaire designed by the author, the book analyzes the motivation roots of three university majors (English, Engineering and Business) in light of the new perspective created by the discovery of oil in the country. University lecturers and just about any EFL teacher will find in this book very useful source of inspiration for motivating their EFL/ESL students.
