OverviewExcerpt from Fossil Mammalia of the Huerfano Formation, Eocene, of Colorado The study of the Huerfano mammals presented here is the result of a project initiated in 1952 by Dr. George Gaylord Simpson, then Curator of Fossil Mammals and Birds at the American Museum of Natural History and now Alexander Agassiz Professor at Harvard. I started working on the project as one of his field assistants; later Dr. Simpson allowed me to study the fossil mammals.
