Bernita always desired children, but once the years went by and treatments rendered no results she begin to accept the Lord's will..or so she thought. Well, God had other plans. After being blessed with a son she entered into textbook parent mode equipping him for life, and raising him to be a man. As life would have it though, nothing could have prepared Bernita for the challenges they would face, the ridicule he would receive, and the lack of support that would be available when they needed it. In this book, she details motherhood from the point of view of someone who worked within the school system but still needed more from them concerning the needs of her son. Her story is relatable, and gives voice to the voiceless. There is hope for parents who seek it, and it is possible to be a success story, for God knows the plan.

As a self-proclaimed expert on all things public school teacher/parent of a child with a disability, Bernita F. Patterson-Ryan is a 26-year educator in a public school system in the south. She has spent all of these years as a classroom teacher at one school. She has been diagnosed and treated for depression and anxiety and wears that badge as a proud recipient of professional care and medication. She is an HBCU Graduate, a PWI Master's Degree recipient, and a proud life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She is the youngest of 5 girls born to a Baptist minister and classroom teacher. Bernita is the divorced mother of 1 young adult son, Clinton. She enjoys wine-tasting events and traveling with friends. She wrote this book in an attempt to help parents of students in public schools with disabilities and those especially on the Autism Spectrum.
