OverviewEste texto presenta las investigaciones realizadas en la Universidad boliviana (UMSA) dentro del contexto docencia-investigación. Siendo el altiplano boliviano un agroecosistema importante para los agricultores campesinos al mismo tiempo representa seguridad alimentaria para la región es importante conocer y fortalecer su tecnología tradicional. Se hace énfasis en el papel que los microorganismos desempeñan tanto en el ciclo de cultivo como en el ciclo de descanso de los terrenos. Se presentan los primeros estudios microbiológicos del suelo en este sistema altiplánico de condiciones climáticas difíciles y donde los microorganismos deben jugar un rol importante como almacenes de nutrientes para la producción agrícola.
