Overview

During this tumultuous period in health care, it can be helpful for both students and practicing nurses to not only look forward to change but to look back at customs that have served nurses well over the years. This text examines a variety of nursing rituals in the context of caring science and evidence-based practice and demonstrates how understanding and incorporation of such rituals can have a transformative effect on contemporary nursing practice. It is written for undergraduate and graduate students, and serves to integrate the liberal arts into nursing education as per AACN's New Essentials of Baccalaureate Education. Zane Wolf, PhD, RN, FAAN, is currently Dean Emerita and Professor at LaSalle University School of Nursing, USA where she served as Dean of the Nursing program from 1997 until 2012, as well as serving as Professor and Director of the Graduate Nursing program. Other notable academic appointments include professorships at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Widener University School of Nursing, and Villanova University School of Nursing. Dr. Wolf has been the author of numerous research articles on various topics including medication errors, patient safety, chronic illness, and nursing education, among many others. In addition, she has served in editorial positions for various journals including Holistic Nursing Practice and the International Journal of Human Caring. She has been the recipient of 28 professional nursing awards in the course of her career. Her current research interests include Caring, Chronic Illness, Rituals, and Clinical Practices.
