Overview"The contributions to this volume have been brought together and edited from presentations made to a two-day technical seminar, held in Brussels with the financial and organizational support of the social affairs directorate of the European Commission, on 15th and 16th May 1995. During the course of the seminar, a substantial body of information emerged about the practical workings of regulatory mechanisms within each of the Nordic countries - covering, as well as the three Community Member States of Denmark, Finland and Sweden, also the ""non-members"" Iceland and Norway, with their continuing experience inside the framework created by the arrangements establishing the European Economic Area. Much emerged, too, about the underlying values which have sustained the successful social structures within those Nordic countries, as well as about the challenges which growing European Community influence in the north of the continent is considered to provoke."
