Ernesto Saqui Maya Leader is the life story in his own words of a teacher, Maya Centre Village Council Chairman, the first Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary Park Director, and a leading businessman in eco-cultural tourism of Maya Centre, Belize. Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary is the first preserve for the protection of jaguars in the world. In a simple, direct way he tells the story of his life, how he helped to develop the village of Maya Centre and turn around a community highly antagonistic to the Wildlife Sanctuary to one supportive of and supported by the Sanctuary. Author Information

Ernesto Saqui was educated at St. Peter Cleve High School, Ecumenical High School, and the Belize College of Arts, Science and Technology. He was the Chairman of Maya Centre village from 1985 to 2010 and Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary Park Director from 1987 to 2002. He and his wife Aurora Garcia Saqui have developed the eco-cultural tourism business, Nu'uk Cheil Cottages in Maya Centre.
