OverviewThe purpose of this book is to present teachers with a set of lessons to help them deliver unit 1 in the BTEC business course. The book introduces the student to the language and terminology used in business. It will explore trends and how they affect business, how businesses operate and the factors that affect their success. The students will then be introduced to different types and sizes of business. Then the book encourages students to move on and plan an idea for a new business and define their business model. They will have to research the market and identify gaps or opportunities. They will have to determine the needs of customers and show how they can over deliver on those needs. They will have to assess the viability of the idea and make projections as to the viability of their proposal. There are case studies of recent well known entrepreneurs like Rose Grimond, Mark Zuckerberg and Tanya Budd and the students will be encouraged to consider the importance of vision, using the case study of Apple Computers.
